Homework for week 3

Chapt 3: numbers 14, 21,,25,
Chapt 5: numbers 1,6,8,13,15,16

The midterm will cover the full material from Chapters 1-3. From Chapter 5 you are responsible only for the
above homework's questions. You are responsible for the chapter 4 material on polynomials, but only in the sense that a polynomial may appear at some point in a question and you may need to use one of the facts there (which you presumably knew before you took this class).

Midterm Next Thursday in Class

The midterm will be next Thursday in class. The problems from the first 2 weeks will be of similar difficulty to the exercises in the backs of chapters 1-3. This includes both those exercises assigned to you and those which were not. You will also be tested on the material from the past week. However on this material I will pull questions directly from the coming assignment.

Warning: Math ahead

This course will be taught quite theoretically, and at a fast pace! As a result, the homework will be heavy too. If you are interested mainly in applications to other fields, or prefer to deal only with concrete objects, you should take Math 103 instead.
